Modern Architecture: Plans revealed for £3.5bn supercomplex in Malaysia

This is the proposed $7billion dollar supercomplex designed by Architect Asymptote,a masterplan for a £3.5bn city development for Malaysian government.

Modern Arhitecture

Known as Penang Global City Centre, it will cover 256 acres and feature two 60-storey towers housing luxury residential unit and five-star hotel accommodation.

American architect Asymptote has unveiled images of a $7bn (£3.5bn) supercomplex on the island of Penang in Malaysia. The open space beneath the towers will act as a public plaza surrounded by shops, restaurants, a theatre and a convention centre.

The development was masterplanned by Parisian firm Atelier Seraji.

Penang Global City Centre is to be funded by the Malaysian government, who claim its construction will be carbon neutral.

This is one heck of design. I haven’t yet go a clue what is the design based on. There usually a theme involve in building designs. Like the Millennium dome, that supposed to be shape like a crown, Sydney Opera house based on sail boats and My Favorite, Burj Al-Arab design to symbolize the shape of a sail.

Very unique but is the shape memorable like the Petronas Twin Towers or The Eifel Tower? Most famous designs are recognizable.

Anyway, I got this questions. Should the Malaysian Government spend nearly RM24 Billion on a Project like that? Or should it be spent on other things? Comment’s anyone?

If Petronas Twin Towers weren’t built, would Malaysia be recognize by the world? Would the economy in Malaysia be the same as now? Who knows. Like business people always say, “Spend some money to make more money.”

And like I alway say to myself,

“There’s Always A Reason Behind Every Excuse, Maybe for the Greater Good or For The Better Worse”

P.s, I’m trying to fine a new identity and direction for this blog. Should it stay personal or should it go commercial. So bare with me the changes in the next couple of week.

this project scrapped already. the old state government didn’t solve some land matters before election and now the new government is going against the project.

    Dear Author,

I don’t see any benefit of interest for the people in Penang. Penang had been well developed ever since BN’s hands & now DAP.

I love & agreed Prai, Butterworth & Georgetown industrial site as the most successful industrial site of Peninsular, but this project to be apply in our home land such as Penang - well, I hope our leaders will have good analysis report why to invest.

Moreless back in JB there’s lots of ongoing projects & residential amount is over supplied. As an industrialist, I wish there would be more site to chatter local entrepreneurs for our economic growth.

Do Malaysia lack of local architectural designers? I hope my comments useful.
